Home & School Association

Holy Martyrs Home & School Association consists of four board members (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer)  under the guidance of our school principal.  The main objective of the Home & School Association is to give parents and teachers the opportunity to share experiences for the benefit of the school and its students.  Board members meet throughout the school year to plan upcoming fundraisers and events.

Our Home & School Assoc. sponsors Back To School Night and many other activities, including the Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Bowling, and Breakfast with Santa, for the enjoyment of our parents and students.  Along with our supportive parent volunteers and community businesses, our Home & School Association has organized successful Silent Auctions, Art Auctions and other events that involve parishioners, friends and community members from outside our school family.

The Home & School Board positions of Secretary and Treasurer are held for two-year terms, with elections for each in alternating years.  Each year, a new Vice President is elected and at the beginning of the second year of their term, they hold the position of President.

Our year-round Home & School's fundraiser is The HMS SCRIP Program, which not only raises money for HMS but also allows school families to earn tuition credits.  For information on what SCRIP is and how the program works, please visit our SCRIP Program.

Volunteering At School

There are a number of ways to volunteer at Holy Martyrs School.  We welcome parents, grandparents and other family members and friends to join us for these important volunteer positions.  Here are just a few of the ways to volunteer at HMS:

Hot Lunch:  Our Hot Lunch Program operates each full school day and therefore volunteers are needed Monday through Friday to come into the cafeteria each day at approximately 11:15 a.m. to setup, serve lunch, and clean up the kitchen afterwards.  There are two lunch periods, first for the K-Gr. 3 students at 11:30 a.m., and second lunch is at 12:00 noon for students in Grades 4-8.  Volunteering for Hot Lunch is easy, you can sign up for one or two days, or all five if you'd like.

Yard Duty:  Supervising our school children during their lunch recess is a great way to volunteer at HMS!  Lunch recess begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at approximately 12:20 p.m.  Students in Grades 4-8 come outside at 11:30 a.m. and when they go inside for their lunch period, students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 come outside to enjoy their recess.  Two adults are needed each day to supervise the children at play.  In the event of inclement weather, the children remain in their classrooms for recess and volunteers supervise them in their classrooms. You can volunteer one or two days each week, or whatever fits into your schedule.

Enrichment Programs:   Our After-School Enrichment Program relies on parent and community volunteers to instruct students in a variety of classes.  Since this program began two years ago, our students have enjoyed classes such as Art, Music, Glee Club, Cooking, Chess, Dance, Ukrainian Egg Decorating and Woodworking. Do you have any special talents that you would like to share with HMS students?  Teaching an Enrichment class is a great way to get involved!

Enrichment classes are held in two sessions during the course of the school year.  Session 1 typically runs for six weeks beginning at the end of September, and Session 2 runs for six weeks beginning in February.  Classes are usually held Monday through Thursday afternoons from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.  Students are supervised from 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. by a faculty member and given a snack, and class begins at 3:30.

We are always looking for new ideas and new instructors as well. If you are interested in teaching a class and this schedule does not work for you, please contact Principal Hayden and a special class time can be arranged.

Library:  Our School Librarian, Mrs. Gallagher, is in need of volunteers at different times during the year.  She may need help once or twice a week when the younger classes come into the Library for instruction and to check out books, or she may need help doing inventory throughout the year.

Homeroom Parent:   Homeroom parents are needed for each grade level to organize special classroom parties/events at the request and discretion of the Homeroom teacher.  The teacher will contact you if they wish to have special holiday parties, or perhaps an event to celebrate a special class project.  Teachers will ask for volunteers at Back To School Night in September.

SCRIP:  We are always looking for volunteers (school parents) to sell Scrip after masses and at other times during the year.  If you are interested in helping with this great fundraiser, please contact the School office.  Click here to learn more about SCRIP.
