School FYI's

School Policies
For a complete list of our school policies, please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook.

Absences
If a student will be absent from school, the parent/guardian must contact the school office prior to 8:00 a.m.  A message may be left on the school’s voice mail.  The school office phone number is 215-887-2044.

On the first day back after an absence, the student must bring a written note, signed by the parent/guardian, that states the reason for and dates of absence.  If a child has been absent from school for more than three consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required for reentry.  A doctor’s note may also be required if your child has a communicable disease.

Class and homework assignments should be requested if a child will be absent for more than two days due to illness.  Assignments may be brought home by a sibling or may be picked up from the school office after school hours.

Vacations during the school year are discouraged.  A written request must be submitted to both the principal and the homeroom teacher.  Any work missed due to a vacation must be made up upon the child’s return; the mastery of this work is the responsibility of the parent and student.

Appointments During School Hours
Medical and dental appointments should be made outside of school hours whenever possible.  If an appointment must occur during the school day, written notice of the appointment must be turned in prior to the appointment.  Parents must sign the student out in the school office.  Work missed during this time is due the following day.

Lateness
Students are considered late for school if they are not in their assigned homeroom for morning prayer when the school bell rings.  If a student is late, he/she must sign in at the school office.  Parents will be contacted if there is a chronic lateness problem.  Chronic lateness may result in a student not receiving perfect attendance and, if the problem is not resolved, a report will be issued to the school district home visitor.

Lunch
Students may participate in the school hot lunch program or they may bring their own lunch to school.  Lunch time is as follows:
Grades K-3: 11:30-12:00                    Grades 4-8: 12:00-12:25
If your child forgets to bring lunch, it may be dropped off at the school office.  If a student does not have a lunch, he/she should notify the teacher and the school will make sure that they receive a lunch.

Medication
Medication will be given to a student at HMS under the following circumstances:
· The medication is prescribed by a doctor and is labeled with the child’s name, dosage, and time the drug is to be given.
· Medication is in a container and is appropriately labeled by a licensed pharmacist or physician.
· The required "Physician's Medication Order Form" is completed and signed by the physician and is on file at school.
· Written parental permission ("Parental Medication Consent Form") is completed, signed and given to the administration to comply with the physician’s order and releasing
  school personnel from any liability.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Formal parent-teacher conferences are scheduled after the first report card.  However, a conference may be initiated at any time deemed appropriate by either the parent or the teacher.  Parent wishing to speak with a teacher should set up an appointment in advance.

Report Cards
The school year is divided into trimesters with a report card being sent home at the completion of each trimester.  Report cards are designed to inform parents of their child’s progress.  Parents also receive progress notes and failure warnings prior to the receipt of a report card.
